These not only help to ensure that excellent standards of research are achieved, but that research is aligned with the needs of the government and industry and contributes to the socio-economic development of Oman and the region.  
 
Sultan Qaboos University has a strong and highly skilled research management and administration structure/function. With a strong record of accomplishment of proven expertise in these areas, Sultan Qaboos University is well placed to host a conference on international best practices in research management and administration. The conference, which is organized in association with The Research Council (TRC) and Qatar University,  will provide a forum for research management and administration professionals, researchers and educators from across the world to share best practices in research management and administration, to discuss issues and challenges currently facing research management and to identify collaborative venues for addressing relevant issues

SQU to Host International Conference on Research Management and Administration - Tuesday, January 7, 2020

 


Sultan Qaboos University (SQU), in association with The Research Council (TRC) and Qatar University will organize an international conference on Research Management and Administration in March 2020. This international conference was proposed by the Deanship of Research at SQU with the aim of sharing the best practices in research management and administration both regionally and internationally, identifying challenges and issues facing research management and administration and the way forward to solve them, and exploring international approaches to quantify and monitor the quality and impact of research. Furthermore, the conference aims at linking researchers within the industry for tangibles, "real world" benefits, and defining the competitive nature of research funding.

The conference, which is sponsored by Nama Holding Company, Oman LNG Development Foundation and Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), will cover several themes including the effectiveness of centralized and decentralized approaches in research management, challenges facing research administration, and legal and ethical aspects of research projects. In addition, conference sessions will discuss topics such as the competitiveness of the research funding process, exploring potential external funding sources, mechanisms of supporting researchers to obtain external grants and the role of research administrators in facilitating multi-disciplinary partnerships and collaborations. Conference participants will also discuss methods of research capacity building at the institution, professional development, define generic research competencies and identify approaches to develop a research vision and strategy for organizations.
