The UNESCO Chair for Ophiolites Studies and the Earth Sciences Research Centre at Sultan Qaboos University are situated in close proximity of Oman Mountains. For the past 30 years, the University has been actively involved in advancing geological knowledge about the Oman Mountains and particularly the Semail ophiolite. This objective was successfully achieved during three previous geological conferences on the Oman Mountains in 1990, 2001 and 2012, and an International Workshop on CO2 sequestration in mafic and ultramarine rock in 2011 which were attended by delegates from 60 countries.
In order to review new developments during last 8 years and to promote ongoing geological research, the UNESCO Chair for Ophiolites Studies and the Earth Sciences Research Centre are organizing a fourth conference in this series for 2020. This conference will present the latest developments across a broad spectrum of earth-science professions, including chemical and biological studies on oceanic lithosphere and results of the Oman Drilling Project (http://www.omandrilling.ac.uk/). The UNESCO Chair for Ophiolites Studies at the Sultan Qaboos University looks forward with keen interest to welcoming you to this unique forum for sharing your experience and presenting your original results on the geology of this vital region.
